The IP to Country Database

I think that the DB has too much information!
I think that COUNTRY_CODE3 and COUNTRY_NAME shouldn't exist in the DB. If you take them out, the DB will be smaller, so better.
Later, there should be a file with the correspondence between Country code and country name.

I agree that in its ultimate destination that the data contained in the provided database could or should be stored in predetermined relationships.

However, this database is in an exported data format ie. csv. Though of course it could be provided in seperate files it would complicate the import process for many people, and probably cause more 'how do I import the database posts' - importing 1 csv file is easy.

Of course, if the database was provided as a more specific data format ie sql, access, whatever, that would change things entirely.

Hi nlopes !

With what respect do you feel that removing country name and CC3 (thus creating a smaller db) would is better ?

Are you concerned about the extra bandwidth while downlaoding the csv file
Or Do you feel your query retrieval will be faster ?

I was concerned with both!

But I have already created a script to make a smaller db (half size) from your great DB.

Hi,

I found a database matching country codes (2 and 3 letters), full names and numerical codes. It's here : http://27.org/isocountrylist/
