The IP to Country Database

Forum Topics : Support / Discrepancy over Great Britain
Submitted by foobar on Wed, 08/20/2003 - 06:39.
I just downloaded the latest CSV and discovered at least one inconsistency. The new code "UK" seems to have been introduced alongside "GB" for IP ranges in Great Britain. The list at ftp://ftp.ripe.net/iso3166-countrycodes.txt still only lists GB.

Is this a mistake, or are we going to play 'guess the code' from now on? ;)

That discussion seems to be about whether the database should use GB *OR* UK. Personally, I don't really care but I do think it should stick to just one code thoughout!

Well there is a difference...

GB doesn't include N.Ireland, whereas UK does.
What do IP addresses from Northern Ireland get returned as?

No, its not about using GB *or* UK. If you can be bothered read it again.
I personally am pleased that the codes are back in - not sure at this time exactly what it accomodates though :)

Data is more useful when it has more data than it did before, whether you or anyone needs it or not - but thats obvious.

Lets not forget that the data provided is in an exported data format. It is very easy to normalise the data how you want it in your import process. Search and replace on the source data file is another option.
